3 Day Camp in the Woods – Bushcraft Shelter, Dog, Wool Blanket (STORM FORCE...

Join me on a 3 day camp in the woods with my friend Dustin and his dog. We build a bushcraft shelter using natural materials, sleep on tree leaves, deer hides and a wool blanket. Storm force winds threaten to destroy the bushcraft camp that we built but we secure it down and use a tarp to protect us from the storm wind and rain. Using bushcraft skills, we built our shelter out of tree saplings from the forest. Once we build the foundation of the shelter, we put a tarp over the top to protect it from the rain and keep the inside of the shelter dry. On Day 2, we really expand the camp, and build a fire reflector with axe and saw, as well as building a cooking setup with pot hangers for the cast iron oven and kettle. Dustin had prepared some tasty camping meals for the 3 days that we were there. On the first night we spit roast a whole chicken over the fire, the second night we grill a steak over the fire and cook vegetables hobo style in the ash. On the 3rd day, we had storm force winds over 40mph rip through the forest, thanksfully our bushcraft shelter was secured and lasted through the storm. It was an epic 3 days, a camping trip to remember for sure! Off Grid Pallet Wood Homestead Build – Pallet Wood Projects at The Cabin

We head back to the Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin to continue building more pallet wood projects for the Wilderness Homestead. In this episode of the pallet wood cabin build, we dismantle the Bushcraft wall that we weaved with sticks, and in place we expand the diy pallet wood picket fence that we built in a previous episode. This now completes the area of the vegetable garden and raised vegetable bed and polytunnel. The front porch of the cabin already has a bench, but we decided to design and build another chair there, but this one with a more decorative look. We put this one together with screws for more stability. Then, using some hand tools, we started work on building a flower trough for the flowers at the front porch. These pots will hold flowers that we will plant in a couple of weeks as the long winter has made it difficult to plant vegetables and flowers. Now that spring is in full flow, we will begin to plant some veg in the polytunnel. There is also an abundance of wild edibles in the surrounding forest. After we had finished the building projects, we fired up the wood stove and cooked up some bacon and eggs and put these in some fresh bread for a sandwich. We then finished off the episode with Theory Time, with Dad talking about the negative effect that modern-day mobile phones are having on society and the damage it is causing. Building a Saxon House with Hand Tools: Timber Frame | Bushcraft Project (PART 3)

We continue building a bushcraft saxon house in the forest with hand tools only. This time we work on building a timber frame using woodworking techniques and joinery such as mortise and tenon. We use saw, hammer, knife and axe to craft wooden pegs to secure all of the joints in place. Firstly, we had to de-bark the logs using a drawknife. We then burned the ends of the logs to preserve them for longer and help prevent rot. This is an ancient wood preserving technique called Shou Sugi Ban. Using a shovel we dug holes to put the jowl posts in place. We cut tenon joints on the top of the jowl posts and then using a hammer and chisel we cut mortises into the wall plate or horizontal support beams. We also secured the ridgepole of the house with the same technique. With the foundations and timber frame now complete, the saxon house is ready for the roof rafters. In Part 4 we will be securing the mortise and tenon joints together with wooded pegs. We will also be using the bark peeling station to create rafters for the roof.
